Don Roberts and Lisa Nafziger were engaged on Lisa's birthday, October 14, 1996. They had known each other for about five and a half years and had dated for almost four years. By the time they became engaged, their friends were saying, "It's about time, guys!" At the left is their Official Engagement Photo, taken in front of the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco. They were married on November 1, 1997 at Saint Augustine Church in Pleasanton, where they are both members. The wedding ceremony was beautiful (What mother of the bride thinks otherwise, but I've been told by others in attendance, as well!), and the subsequent reception at The Claremont in Oakland was a smashing success. Don and Lisa are extremely well suited for each other and we are very happy to have Don in our family. The following photographs are from the pre-wedding activities, as well as from the ceremony and the reception. Click on each photo to see a full size image.

Getting ready (far left) at home was accomplished
with the help of Mom and matron of honor,
Devora Jacobs.

Finally all ready to go (near left) and leaving
for St. Agustine (right) in Devora's car.

Pre-wedding photos were taken in the same Saint Augustine grotto where Don proposed to Lisa. Devora Jacobs, who has been a close friend of Lisa's since junior high, was Lisa's Matron of Honor. Brett, Lisa's brother, came from Chicago to be a groomsman and we were able to get a family photo for the first time in 4 or 5 years. It was a beautiful, sunny Fall day with the temperature reaching 80 degrees by the time the ceremony started. But there was a cooling breeze outside and air conditioning inside, so no one minded the unusually warm day.
Don and Lisa's wedding ceremony was a beautiful celebration of the sacrament of marriage. There was a big lump in Paul's throat when he walked down the aisle and I had tear of two of joy spill over when the marriage vows were exchanged. Father Dan's message was a timeless one of commitment to each other and to God that inspired everyone who heard it.

After the ceremony Dr. and Mrs. Donald W. Roberts were presented to the congregation of family and friends, and there ensued a frenzy of picture taking that was surpassed only at the reception! Everyone then headed up the freeway to The Claremont for an evening of celebration.
